Carotid artery stenting (CS) is relatively new technique that represents a therapeutic alternative to carotid endarterctomy (CEA) for patient with significant carotid stenosis. Elective CS was initiated in 1994 by the Endovascular Interventional Team at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
